Job Summary
We are seeking experienced Property Tax Consultants to join our growing team in Houston. The Consultants will manage property tax appeals and provide high-level property tax reduction services for property owners across Texas and, for national assignments, multiple jurisdictions throughout the United States and Canada. This role combines property tax analysis, valuation research, client representation, negotiation, and business development. Successful candidates will work directly with clients, appraisal districts, assessors, taxing authorities, and internal teams to develop and execute effective appeal strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Meet with clients to discuss property assessments, tax matters, and supporting documentation.
Review and analyze property data, appraisal district evidence, market data, financial statements, rent rolls, operating statements, and appraisal reports.
Develop property-specific valuation analyses and supporting evidence related to market value, income, and other applicable valuation methodologies.
Prepare tax renditions, appeal documentation, reports, and hearing evidence.
Conduct property/site visits and inspections as required.
Utilize company systems and proprietary tools to develop supporting evidence and appeal strategies.
Research applicable property tax laws, valuation methodologies, and jurisdictional requirements.
Negotiate assessment reductions with county appraisal districts, assessors, and taxing authorities during informal hearings.
Represent clients at formal hearings before Appraisal Review Boards, Boards of Equalization, and other applicable appeal tribunals.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, appraisal district representatives, assessors, and taxing authorities.
Collaborate with internal teams to meet filing deadlines and client objectives.
Participate in business development and contribute to client growth and retention.
Travel as required for property inspections, client meetings, and hearings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
Active Texas Property Tax Consultant license, Appraiser license, Real Estate Broker/Sales license, Certified Appraiser credential, CPA, or Attorney license, as applicable to the position.
Minimum 1 year of property tax consulting experience, including exposure to informal and formal protest hearings.
Knowledge of commercial real estate valuation principles and applicable property tax laws/codes.
Experience reviewing and interpreting financial statements, appraisal reports, market data, and property information.
Strong analytical, negotiation, presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
Strong client-service and relationship-management abilities.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word, with the ability to learn proprietary software and systems.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Willingness to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed during peak property tax protest season.
Ability and willingness to travel for property inspections, client meetings, and hearings.
Dependable transportation and ability to travel throughout Texas and, for national assignments, across the United States and Canada.
