Role Overview
The Head of Credit Strategy will be responsible for shaping and executing the firm's global credit strategy across all lending products and markets. Working closely with the CRO, the Head of Lending, and cross-functional teams (Product, Data Science, Finance, and Operations), this role will define the risk appetite, portfolio optimisation, and growth strategies that underpin sustainable and profitable expansion.
This is a strategic, high-impact role requiring a balance of analytical depth, commercial acumen, and leadership capability. The successful candidate will be a thought leader in credit risk management and a key voice in the firm's lending strategy and governance.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and own the global credit strategy across all products (consumer, SME, embedded finance, and new credit propositions).
- Define and refine the credit risk appetite in alignment with business growth, capital efficiency, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with the CRO and Head of Lending to set credit policy, pricing, and underwriting frameworks that balance risk and return.
Portfolio Management & Analytics
- Oversee portfolio performance, credit loss forecasting, and stress testing across regions.
- Identify and act on opportunities to enhance yield and manage loss rates through data-driven insights.
- Champion the use of advanced analytics and alternative data to refine decisioning models and underwriting performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Data Science and Product teams to innovate and test new credit decisioning models, scorecards, and risk tools.
- Collaborate with Finance and Capital teams to ensure alignment between risk strategy, funding, and capital adequacy.
- Partner with Commercial and Product leadership to design new lending propositions that scale responsibly.
Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead credit committees and present strategy and portfolio insights to the Executive Committee and Board Risk Committee.
- Engage with regulators, investors, and external partners to articulate the firm's credit risk philosophy and performance.
- Ensure compliance with local and global credit risk regulations and standards.
- 10+ years of experience in credit risk, lending strategy, or portfolio management in fintech, banking, or consumer finance.
- Proven track record developing and executing credit strategies that drive profitable growth at scale.
- Strong technical understanding of credit modelling, data science applications, and automated decisioning systems.
- Experience working in multi-country or multi-product lending environments.
- Deep familiarity with consumer and SME lending dynamics, including unsecured and secured products.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills; able to influence at Executive and Board level.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and mentor a high-performing team of credit and strategy professionals.
- Relevant academic background (Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or related field); advanced degree or CFA/FRM a plus.
