- Director of Accounting, Episcopal Retirement Services
Description

Deffet Group, Inc. is pleased to have been retained by Episcopal Retirement Services to conduct an executive search for a Director of Accounting.
Episcopal Retirement Services (ERS) is a faith based, not-for-profit senior living and services organization based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The organization serves older adults through its three premier senior living communities– Deupree House, Marjorie P. Lee, and Episcopal Church Home – located throughout Cincinnati and Kentucky, as well as through in-home and community-based services. The communities offer a variety of senior living options including independent living, assisted living, assisted living with memory support, long-term nursing care, and short-term rehabilitation. The organization also owns and manages 32 rent-subsidized affordable housing communities for seniors with low income throughout Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
ERS existing communities serve older adults on both ends of the economic spectrum but needs to expand its reach to the growing demographic of seniors that are “stuck in the middle”. As such, the ERS current growth strategy is to add new communities that serve the middle market in a new ERS Enriched Living model. ERS has been engaged in exploring and developing this new middle market operations since 2017. In late 2025, ERS began construction on a new 147 apartment community in Batavia, Ohio to meet the middle market need and continues to explore new middle market growth opportunities.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Accounting’s primary purpose is to provide organization-wide accounting leadership, responsible for the effectiveness of all core accounting functions for ERS and all associated entities. (S)he will be the primary liaison and advisor for various operational leaders and will work collaboratively with the Director of Finance to ensure that core accounting operation and financial planning functions of ERS are aligned and mutually supportive.
The successful candidate for this position will have a Bachelor’s degree (CPA strongly preferred: Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration accepted in lieu of CPA) with at least 7 years’ experience in the Accounting field with at least 3+ years in supervisory or management capacity. Experience with Long Term Care (LTC) and/or senior living accounting experience required. Experience in the Affordable Housing industry is preferred. Our finalist will be a competent, compassionate, and committed professional who is willing to enter a long-term commitment of service to the organization and to do so within a team-oriented, collaborative, servant leadership environment. (S)he will possess effective management and communication skills, work harmoniously with other personnel, and be able to make independent decisions.
