Role Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and analytical Credit Research Internship to join our financial modelling team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and validating monthly borrowing base reports, review credit agreement covenants, and compile and review monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) for multiple private portfolio companies. This role demands strong financial acumen, a deep understanding of SME and corporate credit risk, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and validate monthly borrowing base certificates for portfolio companies, ensuring compliance with credit agreement covenants, eligibility criteria, and collateral reporting requirements.
Compile and review monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) for multiple private portfolio companies, coordinating with company management/finance teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
Build and maintain 3-statement financial forecast models, updating assumptions based on actuals, trends, and management input to support budgeting and lender/investor reporting. Experience with M&A models is a plus.
Track key financial and operational metrics across portfolio companies, flagging covenant risks, borrowing base shortfalls, or variances from forecast for senior management review
Financial Analysis: Analyse financial statements, cash flows, business plans, and operational metrics to assess credit risk.
Due Diligence: Perform background checks and validation of submitted documents for credit assessment.
Collaboration: Work closely with Business Development, Risk, and Legal teams to structure funding solutions aligned with risk appetite and customer needs.
Automation & Tools: Contribute to the development and refinement of automated underwriting tools and credit scoring models.
Requirements
Requirements
CA/CFA level 2/3 cleared. MBA in Finance would be an advantage.
Interest in credit analysis, preferably in borrowing base reports, NBFCs, fintechs, or banks.
Strong understanding of SME and corporate credit dynamics.
Proficiency in financial modelling and analysis tools (Excel, Python/R/Power BI is a plus).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write concise, data-backed credit memos.
Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced lending environment with quick turnaround expectations.
Strong attention to detail and risk-oriented mindset.
