Skills and Competencies
- 8-12+ years in finance, accounting, or advisory roles with exposure to product and R&D organizations; business partnering experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience advising on software investment and development initiatives in SaaS, data, or technology-enabled companies, with a primary focus on financial, accounting, or investment outcomes
- Familiarity with software capitalization accounting guidance under US GAAP, including unit-of-account, capitalization boundaries, and asset structuring principles
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial concepts and influence cross-functional stakeholders across product, engineering, and finance organizations
- Comfort operating in ambiguous and evolving environments with the ability to manage competing priorities independently and drive clarity across stakeholders
- Experience working at the intersection of product and R&D execution and financial outcomes, providing financial and accounting insight that informs investment decisions
- Exposure to product roadmaps, portfolio governance, agile delivery, or transformation initiatives; background in strategic finance, controllership, or technical accounting preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency. Proven ability to implement AI-powered solutions to solve business challenges. Demonstrates a growing awareness of AI risk management and a commitment to responsible and ethical AI use
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- CPA designation or advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business preferred
Responsibilities
The AVP-Project Accounting delivers software capitalization guidance and financial governance across Moody's product investment portfolio.
- Provide technical accounting judgment on software capitalization, including unit-of-account, capitalization boundaries, and asset structuring under US GAAP, and consistently apply these principles across product lines, geographies, and delivery models
- Partner with Product and R&D stakeholders during roadmap planning, initiative design, and ongoing portfolio reviews to provide financial accounting input and early insight into impacts of roadmap, investment, or delivery changes
- Translate product roadmaps and initiatives into clear project and investment structures that support governance, capitalization assessment, and downstream financial reporting
- Implement playbooks, frameworks, and decision guidelines aligned with product strategy initiatives and financial principles; identify early signals of strategic drift, scope creep, or potential impairment
- Develop and enhance decision-useful reporting relating to both capitalized projects and R&D, translating initiative-level activity into portfolio-level insights for leadership and supporting end-to-end process review between capitalization and R&D data collection and reporting
- Support implementation of the new software capitalization accounting standard, advising business stakeholders on financial and operational implications
- Support product leadership in distinguishing durable asset creation from exploratory work and manage handoffs to downstream accounting and reporting teams
- Help build and develop a high-performing project accounting team, serving as a key point of contact for project accounting and capitalized software advisory matters
About the Team
The Corporate Accounting team at Moody's is part of the Controllership function and plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity of Moody's financial reporting. The team is at the forefront of supporting the company's capitalized software investment framework, providing end-to-end visibility across the product portfolio, and partnering closely with Product, R&D, Engineering, Strategy, and Finance to deliver consistent and accurate financial outcomes. By joining this team, you will contribute to high-impact work that shapes how Moody's invests in and accounts for its growing product ecosystem, while supporting a culture of disciplined financial governance and continuous innovation - including the adoption of AI-enabled tools and capabilities to drive smarter, faster financial decision-making.
For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $135,700.00 - $196,750.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody's also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
