About YCUA
The Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority (YCUA) was formed in 1974 when the Charter Township of Ypsilanti and the City of Ypsilanti combined their respective water departments. YCUA has grown to become a regional provider of water and/or wastewater services to portions of eastern Washtenaw and western Wayne Counties. The estimated population within the YCUA service area is about 328,000 people.
About the Position
The Accounts Payable/Accounting Clerk performs moderately complex bookkeeping and other record keeping activities that involve posting transactions, maintaining ledgers or other records, and preparation of accounts payable and other related records. Reviews and processes Authority payments. Leads and instructs other clerical workers. Coordinates collections, bankruptcies, and tax certification process related to utility billing accounts.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a TPOAM Union position. Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Two to Three years of experience in accounts payable, preferably in a public sector setting
- Considerable knowledge of accounting, tax, and accounts payable standards and practices, as well as applicable local ordinances or State laws required
- Experience working with Casselle, BS&A, or other government accounting software a plus
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to follow directives accurately and thoroughly and work without close supervision
- Skill in organizing and ability to self-start in discharging responsibilities
- Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public tactfully and courteously
