- Accounting Supervisor
Description
The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations and ensuring the integrity of financial records. This role develops, implements, and maintains accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate, complete, and timely financial reporting. The Accounting Supervisor supports grant administration, budgeting, and the preparation of financial statements, and provides required reports and documentation for external financial and compliance audits.
Requirements
Maintain the District’s general ledger records within the accounting software.
Maintain current knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and the Accounting Manual for Public School Districts in the State of Washington.
Exhibit initiative, creativity, and enthusiasm in performing job functions.
Respond to inquiries in a professional and expeditious manner.
Perform monthly bank statement and account reconciliations.
Perform budget transfers and journal entries while maintaining adequate supporting documentation.
Ensure accurate and timely posting and reporting of financial information.
Prepare and provide monthly budget status reports and other reports for the Board.
Monitor, reconcile, and remit deposits; schedule armored car services; maintain bank supplies; and coordinate courier deposit pick-ups.
Manage grants by establishing budgets, tracking awards, processing claims, and providing grant administrators with financial reports.
Assist with monthly accounts payable processing by fund, including submission of warrant registers and transfer files to the County Treasurer.
Track, monitor, and reconcile retainage balances by fund in collaboration with Purchasing.
Prepare and submit monthly use tax reports, annual 1099 filings, and required unclaimed property reports in compliance with applicable regulations.
Prepare information for the year-end financial statements, such as the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards and debt schedules.
Provide support for the development of the annual budget.
Safeguard resources by recommending, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
Assist with reports and information needed for external financial and compliance audits.
Review and evaluate accounting procedures and operational practices, providing recommendations to improve efficiency, accuracy, and customer service.
Provide technical guidance and support throughout the District on accounting best practices and business services procedures.
Coordinate and implement cross-training on accounting functions to ensure sufficient operational coverage.
Actively engage in professional development opportunities sponsored by professional organizations such as WASBO, WASA, and WSPA, as pertinent to the position.
Collaborate with staff and departments, providing clear communication and support to ensure the success of District initiatives.
Supervise, train, and evaluate Accounting Specialists to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and professional development.
Perform other duties as assigned.
