Description
The Accounting Manager serves as an important partner to the Director of Development, the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors. This role is responsible for managing the general budget, ledger, reconciliations, internal controls, and restricted fund/grant accounting. It plays a critical role in operations to support Anchor Center’s financial health and sustainability.
Essential Functions
Financial Reporting: Analyze and present accurate, timely financial reports; communicate monthly and annual statements; and oversee financial, program, and grants accounting.
Audit & Compliance: Coordinate the annual audit process, serving as the primary liaison for external auditors and the Board’s finance committee. Coordinate related financial and regulatory filings.
Budgeting: Lead the annual budgeting and planning process with the Executive Director and Development Director; administer financial plans and keep leadership informed of organizational status.
Cash: Overall cash management. Bill for tuition and pay vendors. Manage accounts payable/receivable, finance processes, banking, and insurance; maintain records of payroll, fixed assets and depreciation, investment earnings, and accrual accounts. Reconcile contribution revenue with the Development team.
Systems & Policy: Implement robust contract and financial management systems; ensure adherence to billing/collection schedules; and update business policies and accounting practices.
Human Resources: Manage benefits and payroll for employees.
Leadership & Collaboration: Participate as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and attend staff, Board, and committee meetings.
Engagement: Maintain knowledge of program activities and effectively communicate financial matters to the Board of Directors.
Requirements
Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, business management, or a related field, and/or four years of equivalent experience required.
Certification: CPA certification preferred.
Experience: At least four years of broad financial experience, including financial data and audit coordination. Nonprofit and grant accounting experience helpful.
Software Knowledge: Blackbaud Financial and Raisers Edge, Microsoft products, online payroll systems preferred.
Hours of Work
Part-time, 12-16 hours per week.
Primarily business hours. Open to a hybrid schedule, with a commitment of 2 days in office.
