General Summary:  Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Foundation financial accounting system and all investment activity accounting. Prepares and ensures accurate completion of annual reporting requirements, including audited financial statements, 990 tax return, trust tax returns, and all other required reporting to constituent groups. Maintains the records of the Foundation Investment Pools, including market valuation, unit values, income, and distributions.  Also responsible for the accounting and investment tracking of individual trusts, endowments, and other investment relationships and transactions. 

Job Description:

  • Responsible for the accurate accounting for all Foundation investments, including alternative asset investments, whether held individually or in the Foundation's investment pools.  Performs other related duties as assigned in support of department goals and objectives.   Maintains a thorough understanding of the Foundation and University accounting systems. 
  • Performs highly-specialized and complex accounting activities such as trust, marketable and non-marketable investments, and endowment fund accounting, including quarterly distributions to scholarships, programs, and chairs. 
  • Responsible for the accuracy of accounting for investment transactions including income, capital draws and distributions, and capital gains. 
  • Prepares Foundation Board and Investment Committee financial reports. 
  • Prepares and ensures accurate completion of the Foundation's annual reporting requirements including the 990 and 990-T tax returns, trust tax returns, estimated tax payments, Washington state filings, and other required reports.  Reviews tax reporting from all external managers and LLCs. 
  • Responsible for the preparation of the Foundation's annual audited financial statements and all supporting documents.  Prepares reporting and provides support to the University for their annual audit.  Monitors, recommends, implements, and enforces internal control procedures and systems, to ensure the safeguarding of Foundation assets. 
  • Maintains the investment and financial transaction records of the Foundation Investment Pools and individual endowments and trusts. 
  • Provides for the completion of timely and accurate income payments and financial reporting to trustors and other beneficiaries.   Provides outstanding customer service to trustors, donors, Board members, outside counsel, and other departments of the University.

Salary:  DOE

This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after one year of eligibility in the plan. Tuition discount program available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or closely related field.
  • 5 years of full-time experience as a professional accountant.  Extensive experience with computerized spreadsheet, accounting, and database management systems including familiarity with sophisticated spreadsheet techniques. 
  • In depth understanding of investment and investment classes including alternative assets. 
  • Ability to work well with peers and supervisors in a team setting, showing evidence of personal initiative and self-direction.
  • Experience with Fundriver and Adavico, a plus.
  • Personal commitment to and support of the Christian ministry and mission of the University.
