The opportunity:  

Working within the U.S. tax department of a large Canadian-based financial services company, the Tax Manager performs advanced or specialized work, which requires a comprehensive knowledge of accounting theory and principles as well as solid U.S. income tax knowledge.  The successful candidate will become the technical level of professional, will develop a thorough knowledge of the organization's systems and be able to modify or develop new procedures to meet specialized needs. The ability to complete tax reporting and compliance under tight timetables will be expected.

How you will contribute:

  • Prepare/Review quarterly and annual U.S. income tax provisions for purposes of IFRS and/or U.S. GAAP financial statements. 

  • Prepare complex federal and state corporate income tax returns including remittances.

  • Review investment structures for U.S. tax implications

  • Point of contact for outsourced compliance engagements.

  • Prepare and review complex federal and state partnership income tax returns including special allocations.

  • Ability to understand partnership agreements, complex structures with underlying funds and tax accounting for corporate owners.

  • Prepare or review book to tax differences for partnerships and corporations.

  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements.

  • Interact with personnel from all areas of the Company, both in the U.S. and Internationally, in order to obtain and understand complex financial data.

  • Assist in responding to inquiries from federal and state tax auditors.

  • Provide support for external auditors. Provide support and effectively manage the internal audit process.

  • Assist with forecasting and projections both for scenario testing/quarterly deliverables

  • Assist in international reporting (5471, 5472, etc.)

  • Review tax accounts reconciliations.

  • Research U.S. tax theory, apply rules to specific domestic and cross-border transactions, and summarize conclusions in non-technical terms.

  • Assist in special projects as needed.

What you will bring with you:  

  • Deep understanding of U.S. federal and state compliance.

  • Experience in tax technology tools (e.g. Checkpoint, OneSource, Longview, etc.) and financial applications (e.g. SAP, Tableau, PAM, etc.) 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are critical.

  • Strong communication skills both written and oral are required.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a detail-oriented mindset is necessary to be successful.

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (e.g. Excel and Word) is essential.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or the equivalent is required

  • Advanced degree in taxation and/or a CPA completed or in process

  • Minimum 5 year's experience in corporate tax accounting (ASC740 and IAS12) and U.S. income tax compliance, investment/partnership consolidating to corporations

If you are a California resident, the salary range for this position is:  

  • Southern California region: $83,400 - $125,100 annually 

  • Central California region: $87,900 - $131,900 annually 

  • Northern California region: $93,900 - $140,900 annually 

  

If you are a Minnesota, Colorado or Nevada resident, the salary range for this position is $79,500 - $119,300 annually 

 

If you are a Connecticut or Maryland resident, the salary range for this position is $83,400 - $125,100 annually 

 

If you are Washington or Rhode Island resident, the salary range for this position is $87,900 - $131,900 annually 

  

If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $93,900 - $140,900 annually
