The Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP,, in the Department of Management Science and Engineering, is Stanford Engineering’s entrepreneurial leadership center. For more than 25 years, STVP has been developing and delivering entrepreneurship and innovation education and research. We frame how researchers investigate innovation, shape the way educators teach entrepreneurship, and equip individuals, organizations, and regional ecosystems with the tools and training to develop breakthrough innovations and stimulate entrepreneurial success. With a focus on teaching, research, and outreach, our core commitments are to serve all undergraduates and all STEM graduate students at Stanford University with rigorous education in entrepreneurship and innovation through affiliated courses, fellows programs for students, digital and in-person activities and events, and Stanford eCorner content (

STVP’s Finance & Operations Manager is responsible for financial planning and analysis, center operations, and university and departmental policy understanding and collaboration. Reporting to STVP’s Managing Director and working closely with STVP’s Executive Director, this position plays a vital role in managing the financial health of the center, which is more than 95% funded with soft money. This person will engage in creative, strategic, and generative collaboration to develop concepts and business models for earned revenue, fundraising, and stewardship activities. Importantly, this person will lead and facilitate the annual budget planning process and financial forecasting.

In addition to supporting the center’s financial health, STVP’s Finance & Operations Manager will oversee the operational support for the center’s research, teaching and outreach activities including financial processing, procurement activities, as well as the development of and training on project management approaches. This role will also lead STVP’s data program reporting on KPIs [key performance indicators] and the performance for programs and content as well as ensuring appropriate handling of sensitive and confidential data. 

The Finance & Operations Manager will engage frequently and collaboratively with administrative leaders in STVP’s home unit, the Department of Management Science & Engineering, and others across the School of Engineering and University. This role will work closely to help advocate for STVP, inform policy, and help the center launch meaningful and novel programs and content.

Core Duties:

  • Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
  • Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function.
  • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. May also represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies. 
  • Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences. 
  • Will lead the development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. Will perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.
  • May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Physical Requirements*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks. 
  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally use a telephone. 
  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
